Apologies for the delayed newsletter this week; still adjusting to new baby life, and will hopefully be back on schedule this week! Thanks for your patience. I also wanted to plug, one more time, Kevin Reuning’s fantastic new resource, unionelections.org
The Buffalo Teachers Federation endorsed India Walton, and while I am disappointed other unions did not follow suit, I respect their internal decisionmaking processes. Walton was an 1199 member and elected rep at some point in the past, but was working at NGOs by the time she started her campaign. Her org partnered with Habitat for Humanity, a scab organization. I am personally excited for Walton's time in office, but I think there is a better story to be told about where she got her labor support and where she didn't.
That’s useful context; I do think it’s notable when a current or former member or rep runs for office and how little labor tends to focus on that aspect. I didn’t do a deeper dive on endorsements but maybe should have!
